About the Department
Vision of Mrs. Kailash V. Merchant, the first Head of
the Department of Occupational Therapy (OT), and with immense support of Dr. M.
V. Sant, under the wings of Department Of orthopedics at T. N. Medical College
& B. Y. L. Nair Ch. Hospital, this field of rehabilitation was rooted in
1955.The Department always served with the motto of giving holistic quality
care. The services for the patients at the Department since inception have been
at no cost. Occupational Therapy Post Graduate School was started by Dr.
Khullodkar in 1978, and later the undergraduate program started in 1990, both
under the affiliation of Mumbai University. It
is a recognised centre for Phd studies since 2011. Currently all the three
courses are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. The now known, Occupational Therapy school &
Centre, finds its abode in N building, First Floor.
Occupational Therapy is a powerful, widely recognized science driven &
evidence- based profession with a globally connected & diverse workforce,
meeting society's occupational needs. A health profession specializing in
rehabilitation of physically & mentally challenged individuals.

The
department is well equipped with latest version of Standardized test batteries
for evaluation and advanced equipments like treadmill with body weight support
system, electric hoist, biofeedback systems and Pro-balance system.
EDUCATIONAL
Intake capacity increased to 10 seats in 1999 and the
degree given was M. O. Th.
PG course transferred to MUHS in 2006 and the duration
of course currently is 3 years.

2. Undergraduate course in Occupational Therapy started
in 1990, the duration of course was 3 and half years and degree offered was B.
Sc. (Occupational Therapy). The intake
capacity was 10 and the course was affiliated to University of Bombay
UG course was affiliated to MUHS in 1998 and
the duration of course is
4 ½ years with 6 month internship. Degree
given is bachelor's in occupational therapy (B. O. Th.)
3. Recognized centre by MUHS for Doctoral studies since
2011. One MUHS recognized guide for Ph D
Outreach programs:
Organizing camps in various districts of Maharashtra
and other states of country
Organize camps for counseling, disability evaluation
Parent teacher orientation and training program.
