1. About the Department:-
This department was established in year 1998. This is the only department providing radiotherapy services to cancer patients among all MCGM hospitals.
Department of Radiation Oncology deals with the diagnosis, staging and treatment of cancer patients with radiotherapy.
Around 1100-1200 new cancer patients registered every year.
Department is run in two shifts i.e. Morning shift (9.00 am to 4.00 pm) & Afternoon Shift (12.00 N to 7 .00 pm).
2. Equipments :-
This department is working with two radiotherapy equipment.
Cobalt-60 Teletherapy Unit and HDR (Iridium 192) Brachytherapy Unit with Oncentra Brachytherapy Planning System.
3. Services Provided :-
OPD Facilities & Radiotherapy Planning :-
In OPD, new cancer patients are registered, history work up is done, after doing staging and final diagnosis, date for radiotherapy planning is given.
After completing radiotherapy, patients are called for follow up at specific intervals for period of 10 years, depending on cancer site.
OPD Place :- Room No. 3, Ground Floor, R Building.
Morning Shift :- OPD Days :- Monday , Wednesday & Friday.
RT Planning Day: - Tuesday & Thursday
Afternoon Shift :- OPD Days:-Tuesday & Thursday.
RT Planning Day: - Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Department has OPD and Radiotherapy Planning facilities on daily basis.
External Beam Radiotherapy (EBRT)
Cancer patients are treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) on Cobalt-60 Teletherapy Unit.
Common Cancer sites treated with EBRT :- Head & Neck Cancers, Cancer Breast, Cancer Cervix, Brain Tumors, Blood Cancer, Lymphoma, Soft Tissue Sarcoma
70 - 80 cancer patients are treated on daily basis.
Patients are treated with Radical EBRT, Adjuvant & palliative EBRT.
Brachytherapy :-
6-10 cancer patients are treated with brachythearpy technique on weekly basis.
Common Cancer sites treated with brachytherapy :- Cancer Cervix , Cancer Endometrium.
Morning Shift :- Tuesday , Wednesday & Friday
Afternoon Shift :- Monday, Wednesday & Thursday
4. Other Procedures done:-
Thermoplastic Mask preparation for Head & Neck Cancer patients for immobilization during RT
5. Ongoing Government health schemes:-
Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jeevandayi Arogya Yojna (MJPJAY) and Pradhamantri Jeevandayi Arogya Yojna (PMJAY) for yellow and orange ration card holder cancer patientsÂ
