About the Department

The Department of Biochemistry was established as an independent entity in 1971, following its separation from the Department of Physiology. Over the years, the department has been guided by eminent leaders:

Dr. J.J. Engineer (1972–1987), Dr. V.A. Haldankar (1988–2008) , Dr. Dave (2008–2010), Dr. P.R. Chavan (2010–2011), Dr. M.S. Phadke (2011–2017), Dr. Alka Nerurkar (2017–2022)

Currently, Dr. (Mrs.) Bina Dias serves as the Head of the Department, continuing its legacy of excellence.

The Department of Biochemistry is dedicated to excellence in education, research, and healthcare. By providing comprehensive teaching, advancing innovative research, and delivering reliable diagnostic services, the department strives to contribute significantly to the progress of science and the improvement of healthcare outcomes.

Academic Programs

The department offers academic programs affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), catering to a range of professional courses, including: MBBS, BDS, BPTh, BOTh, DMLT, BPMT

Additionally, the department is a recognized Ph.D. research center under MUHS, Nashik, fostering cutting-edge research and innovation.

Laboratory Services

Our state-of-the-art laboratory handles 2,500–3,000 tests daily, covering approximately 50 biochemical parameters. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the department collaborated with Thyrocare to facilitate specific investigations critical for patient management.
