SERVICES AND INFRASTRUCTURE

The Department of Dietetics provides comprehensive dietetic services across various areas of the hospital, as well as in designated areas within the local community.

Food Service Management

• Plan and provide nutritionally balanced therapeutic meals for in-patients based on their dietary requirements.
• Plan and provide enteral nutrition/formula feeds for in-patients requiring nutritional support.
• Monitor and assess the quality of food items supplied by MCGM vendors.
• Supervise food preparation and distribution to ensure adherence to prescribed dietary requirements.
• Oversee the administrative management of kitchen staff and equipment.
• Train kitchen staff on personal hygiene, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety and security measures.

Clinical dietetic services

• Provide evidence-based, individualized therapeutic nutrition plans tailored to the specific clinical and nutritional needs of patients, covering oral, enteral (tube feeding), and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition across a wide range of disease conditions.
• Deliver a comprehensive Nutrition Care Process (NCP) for referred in-patients and out-patients, encompassing nutritional assessment, nutrition diagnosis, dietary intervention, counselling, monitoring, and follow-up across all the specialities and departments of the hospital.
• Empower patients and caregivers through education and training to effectively manage nutritional needs independently, including basic food science, portion size, appropriate food preparation techniques, dietary modifications, and other relevant aspects of therapeutic nutrition.
• Provide training to healthcare professionals and catering staff on the appropriate provision of therapeutic diets, including enteral and parenteral nutrition and other specialized dietary interventions.

• Inborn errors of Metabolism

Teaching Services

• Provide college internship opportunities for postgraduate dietetics students and interns from various nutrition institutes across India.
• Provide six months comprehensive internship program for post graduate Dietetics students.
• Conduct teaching and educational sessions on nutrition for nursing students and medical professionals.
• Provide research guidance to nutrition students and extend research assistance to members of the medical fraternity.
• Organize Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs and workshops for dietitians and healthcare professionals.
• Conduct community nutrition education programs at MCGM schools, Government institutes.
