Medical Libraries are Essential for the organization and retrieval of the vast & continuously expanding fields of knowledge in the health science and thus, to the effective delivery of health care. Books and users are two essential components of the information system, therefore it is essential to have proper interaction between the user and information system. The service element is very important aspect of any Medical Library. In the 21st century, Medical Libraries have become increasingly concerned about their status, their changing roles in the community and appropriate recognition for their contributions to the success of the Medical Libraries. It provides one of the most important means for independent study available to the students. It also serves as the Institution's memory which is true in case of our T.N.M.C. Library as past students alumni still remembers their student days.
Library of Topiwala National Medical College is fully Air condition, well maintained and well managed, therefore information stored is easily accessible to all readers. Library services are catered to 548 PG and Resident doctors, Teaching staff and 800 UG students and 350 other staff i.e. Scientific Officers, Research Officers, Medical Social Workers etc.

History :

In the month of October 1946, Library was housed in a single room measuring 540 sq.ft. It contained books and Journals were stored in 20 wooden cupboards. After that during last 25 years between 1946 to 1971 the library has undergone a tremendous change . Now after 75 years the Library is with an area of 10,830 sq.ft. with a collection of more than 41,107 Books , 25,835 Bound Volumes of Journals and other resources.

Topiwala National Medical College Library has Medical Books and Journals. Library has a collection of more than 41,107 books. It subscribes more than 207 Print and Online journals yearly. Also having Online Databases as follows -
Proquest Health & Medical complete Database (Online 2854 Jls & 161 e-books).
Neurology & Neurology : Clinical Practice Bundle (Online Journal).

THESIS AND INCOMPLETE JOURNALS ISSUANCE:
11.00 am to 05.00 pm weekdays
12.00 am to 02.30 pm Saturdays
Xeroxing and Home lending of thesis is strictly prohibited. Incomplete journals are not allowed for home lending.

XEROX TIMINGS :
09.00 to 06.00 pm Monday to Friday
09.00 to 05.00 pm Saturday
Charges will be Re.1/- per copy.

Dr. A.V. Baliga Lending Library :
12.00 am to 02.00 pm. Weekdays.
12.00 am to 01.00 pm Saturday
Overdue books fine 1.00 rupee per day.

SHORT REFERENCE FACILITY :
Saturday & previous day of Public Holiday : 8.30 to 02.30 p.m.
Return of above books/journals before 10.00 am on Monday and following days of holidays.
Short reference facility will be available for HOD, Professors, Assoc. Professor and Assistant Professor.

Library will be remain closed on all OPD Holidays and Public Holidays.

Rs. 1000/- Outside Medical, Paramedical Staff & Students ½year Membership.
Rs. 2000/- Outside Medical, Paramedical Staff & Students 1 year Membership.
Rs. 5000/- Pharmaceuticals Co. & Corporate Houses 1 year Membership.

Disciplines :

Bags are not permitted in the library department, bags and belonging kept on the rack in the reading room will be at their own risk, Library staff should not be held responsible for the same.

  • Usage of mobile phones will not be permitted in the library premises failing which mobile phones will be taken and return only with fine Rs. 200/-
  • Smoking and eatables are strictly prohibited in the library.
  • Complete silence to be observed in the library.
  • Longer conversation will not be permitted on telephone. Telephone calls not to exceed three (3) minutes.
